Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is defined as any involuntary loss of urine. Although it is more prevalent in older individuals, it is not a normal consequence of the aging process.

Incontinent individuals not only suffer from the frustration and embarrassment associated this problem, but also are more prone to disorders of the genital skin, skin ulcers, urinary tract infections and more. Money spent on absorbent garments, pads, and even laundry in institutional settings, is increasing on a yearly basis as a result of the rapidly enlarging incontinent patient population.

There are many causes for urinary incontinence. While there is some overlap between men and women, each individual must be examined with an eye towards different issues.

Commonwealth Urology is well equipped to deal with incontinence issues in the adult population. When appropriate, we offer outpatient urodynamic evaluation.  Our urologists are able to offer the latest treatments, both medical, and surgical for incontinence in men and women.

Treatment: Treatment ranges from drugs to surgery to behavioral modification.
